<p>Many non-native Vietnamese speakers in international workplaces have this level of Vietnamese. A person working in Vietnamese at a V4 level will, however, lack certain nuances particularly outside his own field. He may also miss some of the subtleties and implied meanings in conversations.</p>
<ul>
<li>Can understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization.</li>
<li>Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite easily, without strain for either party.</li>
<li>Can produce clear and detailed text on a wide range of subjects, explain a viewpoint on a topical issue and provide advantages and disadvantages of various options.</li>

<h2>Detailed Vietnamese skills of V4 level</h2>
<p>In order to evaluate the Vietnamese language proficiency of students as well as their own self-assessment, a V4 level learner should have the necessary Vietnamese skills to:</p>
<ul>
<li>Participate in meetings in your area of expertise, with minimal help.</li>
<li>Discuss gender issues as they relate to perceptions of rudeness and cultural norms.</li>
<li>Talk about your personal finances and give advice to friends and colleagues about their finances.</li>
<li>Talk about your personal and professional lifestyle, including a description of your life at work.</li>
<li>Explain your education, experience, strengths and weaknesses, and discuss your career path.</li>
<li>Talk about mental processes and how you can use them to improve your effectiveness on the job.</li>
<li>Talk about what you like to read and make recommendations about good things to read.</li>
<li>Use appropriate language in social situations, including praising and expressing sympathy.</li>
<li>Discuss leadership qualities and talk about leaders whom you admire.</li>
<li>Deal with relatively complex awkward situations that arise in social and business contexts.</li>
<li>Discuss common political situations and the behavior of politicians.</li>
</ul>
<p>Although progress will depend on each individual’s ability and the type of course, students can expect to reach level V4 with 600 hours of cumulative instruction.</p>

In the workplace, people at a V3 level are able to read simple reports on common topics and write simple emails about subjects in their field. However, a V3 level is not adequate to fully function in Vietnamese in the workplace.</p>
<ul>
<li>Can clearly understand the main points of matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.</li>
<li>Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.</li>
<li>Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.</li>
<li>Can describe experiences, such as recent events, dreams, hopes and ambitions, and can briefly give reasons and explanations for actions, opinions and plans.</li>

<p>In order to evaluate the Vietnamese language proficiency of students as well as their own self-assessment, a V3 level learner should have the necessary Vietnamese skills to:</p>
<ul>
<li>Discuss your personal and professional hopes and dreams for the future.</li>
<li>Arrange a job interview and interview for a job in your area of expertise.</li>
<li>Talk about your television viewing habits and favorite programs.</li>
<li>Describe your education and your plans for future training.</li>
<li>Talk about your favorite music, music trends, and plan a night out to listen to live music.</li>
<li>Talk about maintaining a healthy lifestyle, give and get advice about healthy habits.</li>
<li>Talk about relationships and dating, including meeting people through social media.</li>
<li>Go to a restaurant, order food, engage in polite dinner conversation and pay for your food.</li>
<li>Participate in negotiations in your area of expertise, if you have someone help you understand some difficult points.</li>
<li>Discuss workplace safety issues, report an injury and explain rules and regulations.</li>
<li>Discuss polite behavior and respond appropriately to impolite behavior.</li>
</ul>
<p>Although progress will depend on each individual’s ability and the type of course, students can expect to reach level V3 with 400 hours of cumulative instruction.</p>

<h2>What you can do with level V2 Vietnamese</h2>
<p>A V2 level of Vietnamese is sufficient for tourism in Vietnam and socializing with Vietnamese speakers, although it is not adequate to develop deeper friendships. A V2 level of Vietnamese also allows for networking with Vietnamese-speaking colleagues, but is limited to very basic and simple topics.</p>
<p>A V2 level is neither sufficient enough for academic study, nor for consuming most Vietnamese-language media (TV, movies, radio, magazines, etc.).</p>
<ul>
<li>Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).</li>
<li>Can communicate in normal day-to-day conversations requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on daily matters.</li>
<li>Can describe aspects of his/her background in simple terms, such as living environment and matters in areas of immediate need.</li>

<p>In order to evaluate the Vietnamese language proficiency of students as well as their own self-assessment, a V1 level learner should have the necessary Vietnamese skills to:</p>

<li>Introduce himself simply and use basic greetings.</li>
<li>Tell where he and others are from and give a basic description of his city.</li>
<li>Talk simply about family and colleagues, describing their appearance and personalities.</li>
<li>Discuss clothing at a basic level and ask sales clerks simple questions about it.</li>
<li>Talk about favorite foods and make simple orders for take-out food.</li>
<li>Talk about daily activities and arrange meetings with friends and colleagues.</li>
<li>Describe current weather conditions and suggest activities according to the weather forecast.</li>
<li>Talk in general terms about his health and describe common medical symptoms to a doctor.</li>
<li>Describe the location of his home and give simple directions.</li>
<li>Talk about his hobbies and interests and make plans for fun activities with friends or colleagues.</li>
